Local Band On Myspace
Wan Long Kok
This isn't just Bruneian music. This is Bruneian Metal... hardcore riffage from the jungles of Borneo.
A 5-piece Alternative Metal band from Brunei Darussalam's capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. Currently in their early 20s, WLK have long since cultured a loyal following in the Brunei music scene. Since their first show in 2001, the band (whom are all first cousins) have have climbed up the ranks of the local music scene to establish themselves as one of Brunei's bigger bands. Numerous shows in the nation's premiere and largest purpose-built venue, the JPCC Amphitheatre, co-headlining local shows and opening for foreign artists such as Too Phat, OAG, Butterfingers, Flop Poppy and Reshmonu are a testament to the band's success so far.
Academic obligations have slowed down the WLK train in the past few years - since the band formed in 2000, they have yet to release an album. That, however, is about to change.
With lead guitarist Afiy and bassist/producer Dinny both returning to Brunei late this year after graduating from university, WLK will finally get the ball rolling.
The band's plans for releasing their Before It Burns EP have been put on hold, in favour of writing new material to make a full-length LP. A release date of this LP is thought to be in mid-2008. For more regular news updates and gig photos, please visit the band's website.
Listen to the tracks and leave us a comment - we'd like to hear what you guys think, good or bad. Brunei can rock and rock hard we shall.

Karacoma

During the late stages of 2006, with the departure of Sam Senjakala as well as the on going pursuit of finding freedom of expression and creativity that is unappreciated in a world that is consumed by greed and envy of man. Nightfall an underdog of the music world but is not an unknown to those musically inclined since 1999, decides to rebel and join in the liberation of the freedom of expression and creativity. With Adi from Wan Long Kok and Jaz from Krematory on his side, all three embark on a journey to find this freedom. They have done many attempts and experimentation, some were disastrous, but from the ashes of failure evolved a greater passion in pursuing on. Time and time again they are confronted with indecisiveness and uncertainty. However this momentarily fades as they are then joined with Nami from Senjakala along with Aya which marked a new beginning of the union as it is now called Karacoma. With this all five ventured on with a composition called ‘Await’ where the voice of Aya and the melodic music done by Nightfall, Adi, Nami as well as Jaz echoed in the radios. However, Aya’s presence was short lived, this was very poignant indeed nevertheless they bid a peaceful farewell to Aya. Karacoma waited in the dark, searching blindly for the voice. This made Nightfall to a supposition in attempts of producing a musical piece with his friend, Sam formerly from Senjakala. ‘Await’ was then re-written, and sung by Sam with her piece entitled ‘Paranoia’. Besides that, another piece was produced whilst creating Paranoia for Karacoma entitled ‘Impure Thoughts’ written by Sam. With this, Nightfall then realizes that the creative chemistry with Sam is successful. Nightfall comes to a confrontation with Sam to persuade her pf joining Karacoma, and she requested to never be called Sam again as an agreement to join Karacoma and creating music with them. Therefore she is given the name Siren. And with this the journey on pursuing of liberating the freedom of creativity and expression in the music world is endless…
